I was always looking forward to the Chepstow rally We'd never been to Wales before so I made sure we took a phrase book. The seven hour drive was immediately forgotten when we were greeted by Elaine Meredith who was stewarding the rally (along with her Assistant Lewis). She had been unwell for most of the year and this was her first rally of the year so it was great to see her looking to well. We had over 35 units including many people at their first or second rally, which is very encouraging especially the people who were back the second time as they must have enjoyed it first time round!!! Though we did worry about Dave Goodwin who did not return after a hike to take some photographs. Janet Goodwin came and reported him missing presumed overexposed so we searched the local area where Chas & I found him though he was later heard telling members two strange men, in a car, stopped and bundled him into the back seat!!!
Though slightly hazy it was still very warm and the site commanded a stunning view over the mouth of the River Severn including the impressive M4 & M48 road bridges. There were many Medieval and Roman remains in Chepstow and surrounding towns amongst many other attractions but unfortunately due to having a Committee meeting on the Saturday afternoon & Jen insisting on visiting the many local garden centres we didn't get to sample many of them.
There was nothing organised for Saturday evening but with so many members attending I still didn't have enough time to chat to everyone. The packing up started on Sunday morning but nobody left before the Flag meet. There we partook in the usual raffle and Ray Tims went over the answers for the quiz we were all given on arrival, and we even got a prize---for coming LAST. Well it had been a tiring journey down, or at least that's my excuse!!! And then all too soon it was time to leave for home. Roll on Sacrewell.
