It had not been the easiest of journeys from our home in Scotland, especially the last stage of the A1 into Bedfordshire where we had been plagued with trying to keep out of the ruts on the inside lane that had been caused by the Lorries during the hot Summer. Eventually we arrived at the oasis which was Top End Farm camp site. We were met by the usual warm welcome from Dave Jones, and Maureen obliged with a gratefully accepted cup of hot Coffee.
Having been given a pitch we set up our Dandy while catching up with old friends. In the evening we had the use of the Barn where we could get together but unfortunately it was not heated so most people left and socialised in their own units.
On the Saturday their was lots to see St Neots and St Ives were both close. I had promised to help some friends with a few repairs needed to their Dandy's which helped pass a rather pleasant day. We had also gathered various heating appliances to heat the Barn for the arranged Saturday nights entertainment, which duly commenced. Dave choreographed the Barn dance to help warm up the audience before Ron Bradford's version of the weakest link. Ron took the leading part of Anne Robinson, Barry Chamberlain was Barbarella, Julian Geraghty was Julio the Flamenco Dancer, Peter Derry as Nancy Nureyev the Ballet Dancer, Ron Matlock as Romeo, myself as a Highland Dancer!!, and Dave Jones as himself. It was definitely worth a giggle.
Sunday came there was the Flag meet and again sadly it was the end to another rally season. I would just like to thank everybody for making another year of enjoyable rallies, and a special thank you to Chris Derry the Rally Co-Ordinator for another job well done. Another note of sadness was that just after leaving the site Jim And Brenda Reynolds have a suspension failure on their Dandy. They are both fine, though the Dandy is a bit the worse for wear, but Jim assures me he'll have it ready for next year. Tom
