Solo at Kings Lynn, Minus Chris, Bert & Ethel.

I awoke with anticipation, As I was about to venture forth for the best part of a week in kings Lynn, Solo. Having taken Chris & Naomi to Gatwick airport yesterday.

The Destiny was in the drive coupled and ready for the outward journey. I intended to negotiate the A14, A11, A1065 & the final leg on the A47 from Swaffam. Hopefully without incident.

After a shower & breakfast, I negotiated the gates at the bottom of the drive and was on my way. A while later & I was on the A1065 and was enjoying the peaceful surrondings of the Quiet forest road, that was almost devoid of other traffic.

Left at Swaffam and arriving at the site. A pleasant uneventful journey.

Being Greeted by Alan and Sue with a cuppa and a chat.

Then to pitch single handed, although I had received many offers of assistance if I needed any. Thank you Alan & Stephen to name two. Chas had also forewarned Alan of my Solo circumstance. Alan helped me to position the unit, then retired to Receive others as they arrived. I had previously been Solo at Osmaston & at home so I hoped I was still able, not Bravado, but maybe a little stubonness.

I proceeded in the methodical approach that I had honed over the years as a dandy/Riva Owner. Using little enhancements that allowed for solo erection of the unit. Such as Guys fixed to the roof & cover buttons to stop the roof falling in. A bungee through the cord of the loose end of the roof to stop it lifting or shifting, but allowing all connections to be performed without undue force. The tricky part for me was the fixing of the “En-Suite” door with its three hinges, but even that complied first time.

Don’t ask me how long it took, I have no idea, I am on Holiday and time does not matter as long as it does not rush by.

There were plenty of venues to be visited, The Butterfly farm, Castle, Market Downham with it’s Dolls house furniture shop. Various rare Breed sanctuaries, and farms also local beaches.

There was a feast of “Fish & Chips” or other items from the varied menu to be ordered by the “Gastronaughts”, amongst us to be delivered for the Friday evening after a Visit to Thursford Steam. Thank you Stephen & Claire for the Lift. A most enjoyable day.

Saturday evening was a “Picnic” outside Alan & Sues unit. Followed by the rally meet & raffle. After which I received a card signed by many to Celebrate my recent 50th birthday. Thank you all. Thank you also for the birthday Mug, but I cannot remember your name. Must be advancing years. I used to remember what Altzimers was.

Monday saw me disassemble the Destiny and depart with many happy memories. Retracing my outward journey in reverse. On arrival back home I received assistance from Kirsty to help the “Motor mover” push the Destiny up the drive and into the Garage to await it’s next outing, to Cheshire and the reunion Rally.

Tuesday was full of the enjoyable tasks of putting the Washing through the machine hanging it out to dry then ironing it. A trip to the shops to top up the food so that when I had collected Chris & Naomi from Gatwick on the Wednesday. Chris would be able to overcome jet lag without concerning herself with the domestic aspects of life for at least 24 hours.

Regards one and All.

John.
