Arrived at Waunfawr in the sunshine and after much deliberation found an acceptable slope on which to pitch. The site is on a farm looking out across the valley to the hills opposite which are very green and a bit craggy. Occasionally the whistle of the Welsh Highland Railway steam train can be heard as it makes its way through the valley to and from Caernarfon. It now extends to Rhyd DDu, below Snowdon, and the extension to Beddgellert is well on its way to completion. The further extension to Porthmadog is making good progress with a new bridge being build at Beddgelert and the track through the tunnels being reinstated.

Derek Hart very kindly and expertly arranged a group outing on the WHR with a reserved coach, very much enjoyed by all. We have had some very heavy rain, but not as bad as in other parts of the country thank goodness, and some glorious sunshine. We are sharing the farm with sheep, donkeys, llamas and, unfortunately, some peacocks; very pretty birds but not too popular at five o'clock in the morning! At the moment,

Thursday, it is raining again and the wind is quite blustery. Awnings could be under threat. Kath Matlock has arranged a group meal out at a local hostelry so we hope everything will still be standing when we return! A very pleasant evening was had by all and our Dandys were all secure. Saturday has arrived and we have collected the forecast 40 per cent chance of further rain - what else!? We held our 'flag' meet last evening with just 12 units remaining. Dandy folk are resilient whilst camping but some had concerns about the bad weather at home and left early. Raffle prizes have been secured for those who left their names; something pink for Stephen Swain, I think.

Cath and Ian McKenzie have done a marvellous job of greeting and looking after us all, with some folks leaving and others arriving at intervals. Waunfawr has an excellent fish and chip shop and is a very beautiful and peaceful centre for touring the north west of Wales and Anglesey; however, much better weather would be prefered. One is very much reminded of a previous DOC holiday rally at Beddgelert some years ago; great rally and stewards but lousy weather.

JUNE DANDY RALLY AT WAUNFAWR (loosely translates Big Bog or large moorland, and in some areas meadow)

COMMENTS FROM THE REMAINING DANDY UNTS ON THE SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER THE RALLY MEET.

On a lovely hillfarm with sheep, donkeys, llamas, sheepdogs and peacocks

Very handy site for all the local visitor attractions, thoroughly enjoyed it , even the rain.

Excellent walking country with easy access to mountains

Easy access to local hostelry, fish shop and walks

The best views from the Dandy we have ever had over the mountains of Snowden and the valley.

A very good site, good views apart from the weather, WET/WET

A day trip to Ireland, excellent, A visit to the slate museum and walking in a disused quarry.

Great company, beautiful scenery.  Lots of places to visit.  Lots of laughs

The animals went into the arc two x two, rather like everyone goes home to their Dandy

Despite the weather we’ve managed 3 decent walks and only got wet on one.

All was still in the night, although a tourist in a tent (no wheels) did remark: “They’ve got to do something about these dandys they’re not soundproof, There is somebody snoring!!”

But the peacocks made more noise!

And the Friday evening was cool, not cold, and DRY !

Train journeys on four different narrow gauge railways .( From sunshine to 3 C and lashing rain on one) The river under the bridge at Beddgelert rose 2’ in 8 hours (photos to prove) Slate Quarries, Communal meal in the local Pub. And a very good Quiz. Thank you to the Stewards.
