We arrived at Pinvin mid Friday afternoon, as usual there were people already there. Some had been there from Tuesday. These weekend rallies get longer. About 30 units attended the rally of which 5 were first time ralliers. The weather was absolutely glorious, that is if you like it that hot. The rest of Friday was spent trying to set the Dandy up while also trying to catch up on news from around the club.
Unfortunately Alan was not too well so I could not pretend to still be a sleep (as if I would) when Jessie, at 6.30 decided it was time to be up and about on the bright and sunny Saturday morning. We, like a number of others didn’t go far that day but just relaxed on site. Come six thirty people started gathering outside the stewards Dandy (Bill and Jeans), some dressed as children!!! What a sight. The lady who owns the camp site came to judge the best girl! and best boy! The winners were Brenda Reynolds and David Brookes, they each received a “silver” cup. Then it was down to the serious business, there was egg and spoon, bean bag, three legged and hoop races. No shortage of volunteers and despite all the cheating and disqualifications we still ended up with winners. Later that evening came the firework displays. The first one was a beauty, with fireworks that brightened the late evening sky. Just as that one finished another started from the opposite direction, not quite as close as the first one had been. Thanks Bill and Jean what a lovely way to end the evening.
Sunday morning Jessie let us have a lay in, well at least until 7.30. Sunday morning seem to have a different mood, jobs to be done, porta loos to be emptied, things to be packed, awning to be folded, a little time to chat but tasks that have to be completed. Flag meet 10.30, people gathered outside the Vice Chairman’s Dandy (Ray Tims), it happened to have a sun canopy for Bill, Jean and an unwell soul. Sam one of the younger members on the rally (about 18 months) started the raffle off with a little help from Grandad, who managed to persuade him it was only one ticket that was wanted, not a hand full. Although thinking about it later it would have made it a whole lot quicker. After flag meet most of us packed up and made our way home, but at least 4 units stayed on extra nights. See, I said these weekend rallies are getting longer. Sue Smith
