This was to be our first rally as Stewards and we were rather apprehensive to say the least. We generally camped in the site at Culzean Castle but as they couldn't take a rally in July we had found this site at the Walled Garden nearby. It was to be a very good choice as Jim McCosh the site owner couldn't have been more helpful. As members came to the rally the usual niggling problems cropped up but Jim was always up to the job, and it certainly made our task that much easier. He even arranged an evenings fishing for myself and John Morley nearby( even the stewards have to have some time off, though I don't know that Jen saw it that way!).
The weather couldn't really have been better. It had been rain and wind when we arrived on the Wednesday evening but it cleared up overnight and by Thursday morning it was glorious. There were plenty of attractions for everyone to see and do e.g. Culzean Castle, Electric Brae, Ayr, Boat trips etc. Additionally the site had entertainment on every night, and we had some Haggis racing on the Saturday evening( Don't ask, you had to be there). Sunday came all too soon and it was time plant our Millenium tree( as we were doing at every rally this year). Jim had asked for a Cherry tree which was planted next to the Wall along with our plaque. Again many thanks to Jim McCosh for all his help, if your ever near Ayr do yourself a favour and stay at the "Walled Garden site" Tom
