This rally was always going to be something to remember not least as it was the first time we had ventured abroad since the children were born, and I had never driven abroad let alone towed anything. Our first day was spent traveling from Edinburgh to Folkstone camping and caravanning club site where we met up with Pete and Chris Derry. The next morning we all met up at the Ferry Terminal in Dover and embarked on our Journey to Ghent.
At this point I would like to thank Chas White for agreeing to lead us through France & Belgium to the Camp site I certainly couldn't have got there without him (or at least not as quickly!!!). The temperature as we arrived at Blaarmeersen was almost unbearable, I've never drunk so much bottled water in my life. The pitches though were excellent, though Chas had warned us to check the Hook-ups as it was not unknown for the polarities to be reversed and Chas's was the only one that was which we only found out after I'd scared everybody into checking theirs!!!
Monday, I think everybody used as a rest day after the rigours of the day before and it was still incredibly hot, but on Tuesday some of us went to Nieuwpoort for the afternoon to sample the luxury of the Sea breeze on the beach followed by an Evening in Ypres where we visited the Menin Gate. You could help being moved by the immensity of it especially when they Bugled the Last Post at 20.00hrs as they do every day and apparently have 200 people there even on cold Winter weekdays.
