Banham Rally an early report

Following all the recent wet weather we decided that we couldn’t put it off any longer and we had to get away for a weekend. Having got delayed at work we arrived just after 7 in the evening on the first Friday. It was bright and quite warm just like Sue and Allan’s welcome. Having sorted out where we were going to pitch and downed the very welcome drinks we set up and enjoyed the late evening sun whilst the kids went off and made new friends.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny with fluffy clouds in the sky. The Banham donkey’s had punctuated the night roughly hourly and make an unusual change to a cockerel, but just as annoying though. Having fed the children and walked the dog, during which we managed to spot a couple of common lizards in the undergrowth. That’s 5 times I’ve seen them in the wild in my life now! We pottered over the road to get a couple of things from the shop to find that there was a fayre with a circus, displays and live music on all day. So having discovered that none of us were jugglers or acrobats we headed back to the Destiny for lunch. The afternoon was spent at the zoo where we got thrown out at closing time. That evening we relaxed whilst listening to the music from the fayre and the children playing happily until about 10.30 the rain started to patter on the roof and I settled down to sleep.

I was somewhat surprised next morning to wake to bright sunlight and the patter of a bird running over the roof. Having breakfasted we did the rounds of the huge car boot sale in the zoo car park. The children were desperate to do the zoo once more so Beth got the honours today and I got to laze about with the dog who was enjoying a bone we’d bought from the car boot. They returned for lunch and were soon back in the zoo again to feed something or other. I slowly packed up the Dandy so we could make a speedy getaway when they returned. The clouds got heavier through the afternoon but saved the rain until we were part way through  folding down so we had to retreat to the car before taking down the sides and roof. The fickle weather smiled on us as we waved good bye in bright sunshine. Shame we couldn’t stay for the rest of the week.

Having only just got my brain in to gear after a wonderful week, I thought I would write and say what a glorious time we had.
The weather was fantastic and so was the company. We met old friends we have seen on a few of the rallies, and made a lot more this week.
As usual Alan & Sue were great and made us welcome with the customary cuppa ( though I do recall it might have been 2 or 3 ). And I have to mention Bill & Anne Evans who again were great, and I don't think we will forget our little street party.
This was the first time I have been to Norfolk and I was really pleased with the beautiful countryside. Well done to Chas as rally co-coordinator and to whom ever put forward the site.

Look forward to seeing everyone at Gloucester .
