Severn House, Shrewsbury

The weather forecasters predicted snow and cold winds for the weekend so we packed our woolly hats and gloves. Our journey took us through the lovely lanes of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire. Our first stop on arrival at the campsite was at Mrs Tims’ Tea Tent where Gerry made us very welcome. Lots of Dandy’s had already arrived on this riverside campsite and we soon went off to pitch amongst them. 31 units rallied this weekend.

Chas had booked a village hall for evening use. It was in the next village, Bicton. Chas said it was a mile along the road so Derek and I decided to walk! It was a long mile, but worth the effort to spend time in such good company. We resolved to drive the next evening.

On Saturday Derek and I walked a town trail around Shrewsbury. We had never been there before and can’t think why we had never heard of its charms before. There was a genuine Continental market in the centre of town [Belgian chocolates, lavender from Provence, French breads and wine], which made a good start to our exploring. The town centre is a bit of a medieval maze; alleyways link many of the streets.

That evening Ray entertained us with a “Literary Evening”. The task was to convey a book title to your team without spoken or written words. Much fun was had by one and all. Even John enjoyed it!

During the interval Chris Roe showed us the new regalia designed to celebrate 10 years of the Dandy Owners Club. We were all keen to place orders for the mugs, tea towels and pennants that display the celebration logo and to view the exciting ideas for the new range of clothing. Chris took a long list of orders.

All too soon it was time to pack up and head for home. Everyone had a marvellous weekend catching up with old friends. Can hardly wait until the next rally.

Thank you Ray and Gerry for being such wonderful hosts.
