At last it was the start of 2003 rally season and another chance to catch up with new and old friends at the Selby rally. We were met on our our arrival by Keith ,Sue & Bryony Jackson and supplied with a welcome cup of coffee. Once we'd caught up with everyone, we were shown to our pitch. It's funny that Chas White and I (The publicity team) always seem to end up camping next to each other in some distant corner of the field. I think members hope we will be out of the way; little do they realise that it gives us a chance to hatch some more ideas. It was refreshing to see so many members there on their first rally, in fact 10 out of the 42 units were there for the 1st time. I hope they all enjoyed it. The Friday was topped off with tea and coffee in the hall, which admittedly was slightly marred by the late arrival of the Fish & Chip van . Most of the membership had apparently set their sights on Fish and Chips but the van didn't turn up until 8pm.
Saturday was spent taking in the various sights in Selby and surrounding areas. In the Evening the Stewards put on some excellent entertainment in the hall. There was dancing, party games etc and somehow "the Magazine Editor", "the Publicity Officer", and "the Webmaster" all managed to get cover from head to foot in Loo roll. Mummy!!!!
Sunday came all too soon. At the flag meet we had the answer to various quizzes set and the winner of the longest Potato peel competition was announced. Then it was time again to attempt to up-camp while saying goodbye to everybody. After 5 years you'd think I could do it in under 3 hours. Still it's a whole 4 weeks until the AGM!!! Tom |
