Trentfield
07. NOT wanting
to come for just a couple of days, we arrived at Trentfield Farm on the
Wednesday and yes, we were the first of what later appeared to be a turn
out of 39 units. We beat Ray and Gerry Tims by just a couple of hours. The weather
was fine at that point, but in the night that followed I realised I
should have strapped the roof down. It was lifted at the back by heavy
winds so that the rain got in freely. Perfectly supervised by Ella from
the bed, I got up, faced the elements and attached the bungee ropes,
once I had found them. Later, at the social evening on Saturday night, I
would be accused falsely of having forgotten Ella’s birthday the next
morning. But I hadn’t really, I was just a bit slow as a result of my
bravery the night before. By the time
my coat and trousers were beginning to dry, some eight or ten Dandy´s
and Riva´s rolled in and were welcomed in our awning (the people, not
the units) by the Tims’s and us with tea, coffee (and Gerry’s
homemade ginger biscuits). If we hadn´t
realised before, we knew now, that chatting to old friends means you
hardly give yourselves the chance to go away, and the AGM hadn´t even
started yet! We did manage to go to Lincoln that afternoon, walked the ‘steep’ down into the center of the town and took a bus back up, after we had quite enjoyed the visit.
On the Friday
many, both familiar and new faces arrived and were now officially
welcomed by the real stewards, Derek and Marjorie Roome & Bill and
Ann Evans. They assisted in the formation of the units, which was a bit
different, as a result of the strong wind. As there was another birthday
girl ( Claire Swain), she and Ella got a birthday cake at the McKenzies.
Strangely I got a pair of odd looking ‘flowers’, but that’s quite
a different story. The
traditional meet up in the evening showed that the marquee was in, well,
a bit of a state. Personally I was more shocked by the sight of a pair
of very pink boots. I shall not mention the name of the committee member
wearing them, as her husband Ron might object. After a very
nice meal, the raffle was held in the marquee on the Saturday night, for
fear it might rain on the Sunday. You will
notice that I did not mention the official meeting in the afternoon, but
I trust there will be other reports and of course the minutes, later on.
It did strike me however, that Chris Roe was dressing and undressing
fellow D.O.C.-members in the evening, when she had just stopped being
‘vice’. I did not understand. Is it perhaps because I is Dutch? Ronald Verstraten.
Report 2 Hi To Everyone. Having only been new to owning a Dandy, and being our first rally both Derek & I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their help and welcome. We were not sure what to expect as we have heard so many stories about clubs and how clickie they can be, but we were pleasantly surprised at how the Dandy Club members made us feel as if we were a member of a very large family. We would especially like to thank Alan & Sue Smith, Derek & Marj ( who made us a lovely cuppa when we arrived) Bill (who was parked next to us ) and Pat & Roy who invited us to share their table on Saturday night. I must also mention Chas for without his help Derek would have spent a very sleepless weekend. I suffer with sleep apnoea and with out Chas being able to supply electric for me I would have not been able to use my machine. I think both of us have now caught a very serious bug called Dandy Rallying, and are looking forward to many more rallies and meeting what we hope we can call old friends, and looking forward to meeting new friends. Thank you all again for a wonderful weekend. Derek & Viv Report 2 Our First rally This being our first rally with the club we were a bit unsure how it was going to turn out , but we need not have worried because on our arrival at the site we were made most welcome, within no time at all we were given a very much needed cup of tea. We received help and lots of advice and tips from the dandy experts during the rally and have made many new friends. We would like to say a big thank you to all at the rally and hope to see you all again . We will be going to the rally in Wales at the end of June ,and we have just posted a letter to the club with three more applications to other rallies. We hope there are vacancies because its nice to be members of the club but its much better being active members and meeting such great Dandy People. Regards Sandra & Pete.
