What us? Steward a rally!!

Derek volunteered us to be apprentice stewards at the AG.M. which was held once again at the Trentfields  Farm site near Retford . We thought that we would do our “bit”.

This site is only 50 miles from home, so this was very convenient for us.

Although we had attended two previous AG.M.’s we had been day visitor members. We are fairly new D.O. C. members (2003) but have been Dandy-ing since 1989.

We arrived at the camp site on Thursday 4th so that we could settle in and get our instructions from Chas ! The weather was fine and sunny and stayed this way until Saturday evening when the rain set in. This made our stewarding a much more pleasant experience.

It was a busy w/e. most of the 39 units arrived on Friday, Stephen and Claire coming before we had breakfasted! (it was only 8am) It was a beautiful hot and sunny day so I was kept busy with making drinks for the arrivals as well as ourselves. Alan Smith and Derek were showing members where to pitch and were on hand to help if needed. Everyone was greeted on their arrival and given the programme for the w/e. It helped us to get to know folks and we were able to call most people by their names by the time that the w/e was over and hope to remember some of them the next time we meet!

Although a little apprehensive at first, there was no need for worry! The backup we had from everyone was superb and really made the job easy.

So any of you out there “thinking” about volunteering, go for it and help our very hard working committee members!

Have a good Dandy season.
