The AGM rally was upon us again, the same venue, similar Itinery, familiar faces (though there were quite a few new ones). Sounds like a recipe for a "run of the mill" weekend but you couldn't be more wrong. We arrived at Southwell to the usual warm welcome and Coffee from the stewards Ron & Beth Bradford. They advised us of the timetable for the weekend and showed us to our pitch. Friday was neatly rounded off with Coffee and Tea in the racecourse lounge.
Saturday dawned and soon we were racing ducks. Dave refereed as we raced the ducks up the grid closely followed by their handlers, though how some actually ended up going backwards still confuses me!!! At the same time there was the opportunity to see some of the arts and crafts that the members do in their spare time. They were Superb!! Then came the business part the AGM itself. Even this was not in anyway boring and has laid the foundations for the club for the next year. The membership thanked the committee for it's good work, and as a member of that committee can say we will strive to do even better this year. At the end of the meeting Ian Smith of Riva leisure products ( the new owners of Dandy Caravans) made himself available for questions from the membership from which everybody seemed very encouraged .
The evening commenced with an excellent sit down meal. We all discussed the meeting and more importantly what Dave Jones had in store afterwards. Dave this year did a spin off of "Take your Pick" and amongst others Ronald Verstraten was an superb straight man, especially when he won the sausage!! We were in tears of laughter for most of the show and left wondering, as ever , how Dave can do it so well every year. Sunday came again all too soon. We all met for the Raffle. It was the biggest I can remember, there were 66 prizes and we made £230 for Charity. Now that's it over for another year. Many thanks to all who made it such a memorable weekend. Roll on the next rally. P.S. We received a big thank you from the group of handicapped Gymnasts (above) who were the beneficiaries of our charity donation.
