Fangfoss was one of the unusual rallies as it was on a bank holiday. It was held to coincide with Truck Fest event held at nearby Driffield. Twenty two units gradually arrived on the Friday with the last one arriving Saturday. The weather was sort of kind to us, it was dry but rather chilly. As you pull onto the site it sweeps round to the right and in front of you is the old platform, Fangfoss is on the site of an old railway station, the reception, information and shop are situated in the old station buildings on the platform.
Some of the members visited Truck Fest, others went into York or visited the coast. We bumped into quite a few familiar faces while walking around the show. As well as the main arena with all the heavy machinery and demonstrations there were rows of brightly polished and painted trucks. Some of the scenes painted on the trucks would not look out of place framed and hung on your living room wall. One had portraits of Diana, Princess of Wales, while another had paintings of Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley and other famous pop stars. One of the afternoons we tried to have a “bring your own picnic” but it was so cold, mufflers and scarves were the order of the day. But in true Dandy spirit almost all turned out, a least for a short time.
We had organised two quizzes, one for the “adults” and one for the children. The younger ones listing the most answers to things in and around their Dandy beginning with the letter B. The adults doing the same with the letter A. This of course excludes Mr Ian Baker who listed everything with an A at the front, such as A Dandy, A bucket, A table, ect. So of course I gave him an apple as the booby prize. It was nice to have a three day weekend but it would have been even nicer if the weather had been a little warmer.
