It was quite eerie to be greeted in daylight by Dave who usually arrives for a rally well after nightfall. Friday evening for most of us was enjoyably spent either socialising in the school whilst consuming refreshments very kindly brewed by Janet Goodwin and Beth Bradford, or by assisting members who had arrived later in darker and wetter conditions.
During Saturday morning and afternoon everyone did their own thing as usual and used the day for sightseeing or, as many did, visiting the air museum in which 2 or even 3 days could have easily been spent.
Saturday evening according to the programme, was to be the barn dance with a Morris dancing display. POOR DAVE - little did he know that even before the start of the season devious plans had been afoot. Within Dandys all over the school field a transformation was taking place as mature sensible adults were mutating into horrible brats. Some normal members drifted into the hall whilst Dave, Maureen and the rest of the band were tuning up so they wouldn't realise that anything may be unusual.

Outside ,in the cold evening air, was a gathering of an evil gang of assorted 'schoolchildren' and when the moment was ripe they descended on the headmaster. Has anyone ever seen Dave totally flummoxed? I believe the folk and Morris groups he has played with for many years have tried to achieve this phenomenon but have not yet succeeded. It is a credit to the Dandy Club, with its unique unity, that we triumphed with such great effect. Our thanks to Maureen for keeping Shtum for so long and not letting the rat out of the bag.
The schoolchildrens uniforms varied between very posh, with smart blazers and boaters to downright scruffy with ragged shorts and holes in stockings

There was one mature student with beautiful long wavy blonde hair,a chest some women would have paid good money for and gorgeous legs sheathed in black nylon. I am reluctant to name this hussy as Janet Goodwin may not want everyone to know where her husband obtained these items. Everyone had an 'apple for the teacher' but the hooligan who took on the job of arriving late (Roy Anderson) had an apple to almost match his attire. It was the moldiest piece of fruit I have ever seen and could hygenically only be held by the stalk.

Of course Roy incurred the wrath of the Demon Headmaster and the cane was duly brandished much to the amusement of the genuine children present. There then began an evening of dance with Dave doing most of the calling even though he was suffering from a sore throat and Maureen making a huge contribution playing with the band.

The small children were not left out because once again, as at Market Rasen, Dave led them in their very own dance which was a serious business for a few of them as they did their utmost to follow their leader as they meandered around the room. It was enjoyable for the oldies to watch whilst taking a rest from their exertions. The children finished their dance to great applause.
We were also treated to a fine display of Morris dancing with Dave and his lads giving their all whilst much needed refreshments were once again kindly brewed by Beth and Janet. A truly splendid evening. The air display on Sunday was quite spectacular and rounded off a fantastic weekend and a very successful rally season. Again it was good to see so many first timers and I am sure they realise we are not alway so uninhibited.
